IT is every parents' nightmare - having to bury their own baby son or daughter.

And when Lyndsey Davies had to go through such a traumatic and devastating time when her son Joseph died 12 hours after he was born prematurely she did not know how she would cope.

But guiding her through the difficult time was her mum, Sandra Callaghan.

Miss Davies, 22, said: "My mum stood by me through everything.

"She helped me cope with my feelings and she helped to organise my son's funeral. If my mum wasn't there I don't think I could have done any of it."

Miss Davies has nominated her mum for a Pride of Bracknell award.

She said Mrs Callaghan, 45, from Crown Wood, pictured inset with Lyndsey, is a courageous woman who has supported her family through thick and thing and has stayed strong for them all.

After Joseph died in January 2008, tragedy almost hit the family again later that same year, when Lyndsey's sister Laura came close to losing her son Billy, now two, who was born with Cystic Fibrosis.

On nominating her mum for a Pride of Bracknell Award, Miss Davies said: "My mum is my hero and I don't think she knows it, so please give her this award to show her just how much she means to me, and the rest of our family.

"I truly think my mum needs to be noticed for all the things she has done for us. She is an incredible woman and a role model for me."

She added: "I know that your mum is supposed to be there for you and support you but I think my mum deserves to be noticed for the things she does, she has been through so much and it just shows how strong she really is."

Mrs Callaghan has one son Ben, 26, and three daughters Gemma, 25, Laura, 24, and Lyndsey as well as four grandchildren.

On hearing she had been nominated, Mrs Callaghan said: "I did not expect this at all. I love Lyndsey so much and I cannot believe she has done this.

"I cannot break down in front of the kids, I have to be strong. There are lots of people who are worse off than us.

"I'm their rock and I'm their mum, that's what mums do."
