MORE than 340 runners pounded the grounds of a college at a charity race.

The annual Sam Run, organised by charity Samaritans and set in the grounds of Wellington College in Crowthorne, is set to raise more than £3,200 for the charity.

Every runner, who took part in either the 5k or 10k run at the event on Sunday, received a medal at the end and a word of congratulations from Bracknell Forest's deputy mayor Chris Turrell.

Karen Johnson, fundraising and publicity officer for the Samaritans, said: "The run went fantastically, but it was probably one of the hottest days of the year, which made it a bit tricky for the runners.

"Everyone was impressed with the grounds and runners were telling me it was a beautiful place to run in."

Runners of all ages took part, including those from running clubs Bracknell Forest Runners, Sandhurst Joggers and Reading Roadrunners.

Ms Johnson added: "We would like to thank Dr Anthony Seldon, who is the master of Wellington College, for giving us permission to hold the run at the college's grounds.

"Graham Coe who did a fantastic job of organising the event and also cllr Chris Turrell.

"He shook the hands of every single runner and put a medal over their heads."
