A LESSON in recycling is being taught by a new character at Charters School.
Rodney the Recycler is a life-sized model of a man made entirely out of recycled waste and was created by year eight pupils at the school.
Miss Carr, a student teacher at the school who worked on the project with the pupils, said: "Rodney symbolises the need for everybody to look after our environment, locally and globally.
"He is made out of newspaper, plastic bags, bottle tops and other everyday rubbish that is often put into landfill. Instead of throwing this rubbish away the pupils have twisted, looped and tied it together to create a wonderful piece of art."
Rodney was a project on sustainability and recycling in which the pupils explored how they can use everyday rubbish to make something new and exciting.
The pupils designed a life-sized structure and then dressed him with recycling waste that they had collected.
Pupil Amber Kennedy said' "It was lots of fun making Rodney, he looks great too, we'd like to make him a friend as we can always find recycling waste in our homes and school."
