School trip is rocking

WINNERS of a geography quiz enjoyed a school trip to the Lake District to study the area.

Six year 10 pupils from Charters School in Sunningdale spent a weekend in the Blencathra Field Studies Centre near Keswick after winning the Worldwise quiz in their region.

They joined fellow winning students from schools around the country to learn about the human and physical geography of the landscape.

One of the pupils, Sebastian Down, asaid: "It was an enlightening trip in which we learnt, in detail, about the geology and geography of the area.

"It was terrific to win the Worldwise competition and an honour to be invited on the trip as our prize and then we won prize for the best presentation at the Lake District."

The weekend was organised by the Geographical Association and the pupils were accompanied by the head of geography at the school, Juliet Ball, and the school's orienteering and Duke of Edinburgh volunteer, Denis Gibbs.

The pupils took part in fieldwork activities as well as receiving tuition from Geographical Association staff.

Miss Ball said: "The students really enjoyed the challenge of geography in a different environment. The judges commented on the high standard of work produced by all sic students."
