FAMILIES found out if their children got their preferred school places this week.
In the Royal Borough, 75.3% of children got into their first choice of secondary school and 10.6% got into their second. The council recommends that unsatisfied parents appeal to the independent appeal panel.
In Surrey borough, 79% of children were offered their first choice of secondary school and 92% got one of their three preferences. For reception places, 83% of children got their first place and 96% got one of their three choices.
But Surrey County Council has said that competition for places may get tougher because of an increasing birth rate. Also, demand for school places in the county is particularly high - more than 3,500 pupils from neighbouring counties go to school in Surrey.
