A DEDICATED mum has picked up a top award at a glitzy ceremony.

Jane Gates, whose son Sebastian died on Christmas Eve 2003, collected her Tesco magazine Mum of the Year award from TV presenter Fiona Phillips.

Mrs Gates, who founded Sebastian's Action Trust, said: "I'm tremendously flattered by this award and I hope it is a reflection of the charity's efforts to support children with life-limiting illnesses." Mrs Gates was picked by a panel of judges including Sarah Brown, who is patron of the awards.
