Pen pals on the ice

THIS little girl got her skates on to "p, p, p pick up" a new friend.

Four-and-a-half year old Ella Cox showed she can dance on ice with the help of her bow-tied pal Penny.

Ella tested out her funky friend for her mum Lisa Cox, who works in marketing and events at John Nike Leisure Centre.

Mrs Cox said: "She just thought that they were fun to push around.

"It definitely helped her to be more confident."

The loveable penguins, Emma, Fred and not forgetting Penny, were donated to the John Nike Leisure Centre by Bracknell Forest Council's Aiming High project.

The trio of feathered friends will help small children and disabled youngsters up to the age of eight make their way around the rink safely.

Jo Lillywhite, Aiming High development manager said: "Aiming High for Disabled Children is about ensuring every child has the same opportunities to have fun as well as giving parents the break they deserve.

"Parents and professionals alike felt this was a worthwhile way to utilise some of the funding for this financial year and are pleased to be working so closely with staff at John Nike".

The penguins will be available during under the under 11's disabled skating sessions and can be pre-booked during public sessions by calling the ice rink in John Nike Way on 01344 789000.
