CAMPAIGNERS calling for The Look In cafe for the over 50s to remain council funded will hand over their petition tonight (Wednesday).

The Save The Look In Committee, protesters and a piper gathered outside Bracknell Forest Council's offices to demonstrate against the council's proposals to hand over management and funding of the cafe to the voluntary sector.

Terry Pearce, of the committee, said: "We do not accept that for less than £60,000 they should be quite prepared to see it close. Even if an alternative option is found it does not let the council off the hook. The council has washed its hands of a vital facility for the over-50s in our town." The council has suggested withdrawing funding from The Look In as part of its proposed budget for 2010/11, which will also be decided tonight.

A voluntary committee -the Look In Community Cafe - has formed to discuss running the cafe as a not-for-profit organisation and will hold a public meeting today (Thursday) to discuss its plans at Birch Hill Community Centre in Leppington at 2.30pm.

Anyone who would like to be on a user group for the cafe or to volunteer at it can put their name in a box at The Look In in Broadway or to email info@bfva.org
