A NEW face can be seen on the board at Surrey County Council.

Susie Kemp started as the assistant chief executive on Monday, January 11, and set to work on building on the progress the authority made last year.

Mrs Kemp, 50, takes over the role from Michael Jennings who retired after 25 years. She said: "My main motivation for applying for this job was to help get Surrey back to where it rightfully belongs - at the top and regarded as providing the best services. I wouldn't have taken the role if I didn't think we can achieve that."

Mrs Kemp has joined from Hillingdon Council, where she was the head of organisational development and performance improvement, following a career that has taken in the Local Government Association, the Improvement and Development Agency for local government and the Environment Agency.

Her arrival continues the strengthening of the six-strong senior management team working with chief executive David McNulty. He said: "Our ambition is to deliver services on a par with the very best. Susie, with her strong track record in improving value for money and driving up performance levels, will help us to achieve this."
