YOUNGSTERS battled it out to win a drawing competition and the chance to have their creations displayed in Belgium.

Pupils from Thorpe Infant School were presented with their winning prizes at a special assembly by Cllr Linda Gillham, who helped organise the competition.

Runnymede Borough Cllr Gillham, who is a member of the committee of the Regions in Brussells, presented three pupils with colouring pencils and the school with a camera after their pictures were sent to Brussells as part of a European competition called My Region, My Market".

Headteacher Helen Southgate said: "We are delighted out Year 2 children have won this competition.

"The whole class worked very hard on their drawings and we congratulate the winners on their achievement."

Three prizes were dished out to pupils at the school in Rosemary Lane, Egham, with first prize going to six-year-old Sophie Jenner, second prize to Megan Sargeant, seven, and third prize to Zadie Waterman, seven.

Mrs Southgate added: "Getting the camera is very exciting and will support the children with their ICT skills."

The children had to draw or paint their impression of their local market and the aim of the competition was to introduce the European Union and its cultural diversity.
