Afriyie sets the pace on campaign trail
ADAM Afriyie kicked off his General Election campaign in Ascot with a question time event.
Mr Afriyie, who is defending his seat in the Windsor constituency, took questions from people at All Saint's Church in London Road just days after the General Election was announced.
Members of the audience quizzed the Tory candidate on the environment and climate change at the debate, organised by the Eco Explorers Church Group.
Mr Afriyie said the Conservatives have 15 policy papers and three of those are solely concentrated on the environment, including a scheme that helps people insulate their homes and energy performance standards for all new buildings.
Mr Afriyie added: "We have a very clear policy on tidal power, we want more off-shore power because that is a quicker way of getting things done.
"On shore is always going to be a challenge because of objections to it."
The Villager's distribution area covers three main constituencies, all held by the Conservatives: Mr Afriyie in Windsor; Philip Hammond in Runnymede and Weybridge and Michael Gove in Surrey Heath. All three incumbent MPs are standing again.
The General Election will be held on Thursday, May 6.
