IT WAS all aboard for fun during a children's church activity session on the theme of Noah's Ark.

The event on Thursday last week was the latest in a series organised by the Bracknell Team Ministry (BTM) group of churches using the international "messy church" concept of creating a fun, interactive way for children to enjoy church.

Lucy Saywell, who organises the events with Dawn Deykin, said: "It's not just cutting and sticking - it's the sort of crafts your mother doesn't want you to have at home. There's lots of paint and glitter and glue, it's stuff that children really enjoy but is a bit messy."

She added: "People who don't ordinarily come to church can come to these events and feel relaxed. It's a bit of fun, the kids love getting stuck in and there's coffee and tea for the adults."

Messy church events, for up to around 40 children a time, have been held in Bracknell for two years, organised by BTM, which is made up of Holy Trinity Church in The Ring, St Paul's in Harmans Water and St Andrew's in Priestwood, where the latest event was held.

Activities included making rainbow necklaces out of coloured beads, gorilla and snake puppets, animal masks, planting cress, painting stones and making cornflake cakes.

It also included a short service about the story of Noah, led by Rev Jane Manley.

The events cost £1 for the first child and 50p each for siblings. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

The next events are from 11am-1.30pm.

Two will be held at Langley Hall next to Holy Trinity Church in The Ring, a Harvest session on Saturday, September 29 and a water-themed event on Saturday, November 27.

There will then be a Christmas craft session on Saturday, December 18 at St Paul's Church in Harmans Water Road, Harmans Water.
