A WOMAN says her young children have been left traumatised after they had to flee from speeding youths on off-road motorbikes.

The mother, who is seven months pregnant, said her two sons, aged three and four, were riding pushbikes on a public path when two riders on motorbikes drove straight at them at high speed with no sign of slowing.

The 28-year-old, from Birch Hill, said: "My children were screaming, they were so scared. It was like something out of a nightmare. I was trying to run towards my children to get them off the path. It was absolutely awful."

The family was travelling along a footpath leading from Evedon in Birch Hill to the grounds of South Hill Park art centre when the bikes came up behind them at around 6pm on Sunday.

The mother heard the buzzing of the bikes and managed to get the children off the path just in time before the bikes - which were going too fast to stop - hurtled past.

She then called 999 to report the bikers and took her frightened children home.

She said she will no longer take her children to the park and said: "The bikers need stopping before they kill someone. They just didn't care. Someone must know who they are."

One bike was orange and the other was white. A male teenager was on one and two teen boys were on the other.

The same evening, at 7.43pm, police received a call from a resident in Donnybrook, Birch Hill, reporting an orange off-road bike being driven on walkways behind the houses.

PC Michael Foot, Neighbourhood Specialist Officer for Birch Hill and Hanworth, is investigating the incidents and said: "These bike riders are dangerous and don't care for anyone else. Most of the bikes are unregistered so they don't have number plates on them.

"If you know who the bike riders are, or where the bikes are kept, I would urge you to call me on 08458 505 505 so that I can take action before someone gets seriously injured."

Alternatively, call the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
