IT will be more like the Holy Goat at one church service when an animal blessing takes place.

The service at St Mary’s Church, in Winkfield, welcomes all pets and their owners to a special service to celebrate the important role animals play in peoples’ lives.

The Reverend Catherine Blundell said: “Animals are such an important part of our lives for some elderly people they are their only companions and they also teach young people about love, dealing with loss and being there for their animals.

“As Christians we believe that God loves the whole of creation and so animals are as much a part of the Christian faith as we are, so why not celebrate the animals that we love?”

Rev Blundell will be bringing along her new kittens to the blessing service which welcomes all creatures great and small plus their owners. The service will be held to celebrate the feast day of St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and will raise money through a collection for the Blue Cross animal charity.

Revd Blundell added: “The service will be for both pets from around the area and animals less fortunate than them which are supported by the Blue Cross.”

The St Mary’s choir will sing at the service and their repertoire will include the songs All Things Bright And Beautiful and All Creatures Of Our God And King, which was written by St Francis of Assisi.

The service will be held on Sunday, October 10 at 3pm at St Mary’s Church, Church Road, Winkfield. Visit www.winkfieldandcranbourne.org.uk or call the church office on 01344 882933.
