The Crown Estate has submitted planning permission to paint a historic hotel opposite Windsor Castle.
The Grade II listed Harte and Garter building which is currently on the market for "offers in excess" of £13,250,000, is to be given a facelift.
Home to Wagamams and The Ivy, the plans ask for Listed Building Consent to paint the lower ground floor elevation including the restaurant façade and ground floor elevation of the Harte and Garter Hotel.
Built-in 1890, the five-storey brick hotel is in the Windsor Town Centre Conservation Area and adjacent to the Grade I Listed Windsor Castle.
The proposal seeks to change the current colour scheme in a minor way, to "better reveal elevational details of the heritage asset".
A colour scheme has been pre-agreed on with the Conservation Team at Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, with samples to be submitted to the Conservation Officer.
The lower ground and ground floor would be a two-tone grey colour scheme according to the plans, with green used on the Thames Street frontage.
The Harte and Garter Hotel is currently on the market at Knight Frank, who say the estate is a "rare opportunity" with "significant value-add potential".
Comprised of 79 ensuite bedrooms, a bar, lounge and spa as well as other spaces including a ballroom, the hotel closed in June 2020 when staff and locals woke to the news the hotel was under threat of closing its doors for the last time after the administrators, Begbies Traynor Ltd, formally handed the keys back to the building’s landlords at the Crown Estate.
Following the news the Crown Estate said it had "no plans" to reopen the hotel.
