Students from Egham International School have returned from a two week charity expedition in the Kathmandu Valley, Nepal - helping build a new classroom there.

The 30 students were continuing their school's long term partnership with the Jana Bhawana Primary School. As well as helping build the classroom they also painted the shower and toilet block at Jana Bhawana and led English lessons with the students, aged four to 10 - even organising an Easter egg hunt.

Bill Roach, head of physical education at ACS Egham and Project Nepal Co-ordinator, said: “This is our third trip to Jana Bhawana and I am immensely proud of our student team who embrace every opportunity and challenge with an open mind and can-do attitude. Students fundraised throughout the year to support this year’s building project and provide learning resources to Jana Bhawana students.”

This year fundraising activities included the annual dinner dance which raised over £15,000 towards the project and students also delivered thirty bags of donated goods to the local community.

In 2016, Project Nepal partnered with the Health and Nutritional Development Society (HANDS) International to employ three Nepalese specialists to implement a nutritional programme across the Panchkal region, beginning in Jana Bhawana village. This year, the team raised funds to ensure the programme continues until 2018.

The team also trekked through the Chatapani National Park outside the Kathmandu Valley.
