Pupils and teachers at ACS Egham School have been saying it with music - hosting schools from near and far at two concerts in just one week.

The Friendship Through Music concert staged at the school in London Road is now entering its ninth year.

This February it saw ACS Egham students collaborating with others from three nearby schools; St Bernard’s Catholic Grammar School and Castleview School both from Slough, plus Langley Grammar School.

The concert’s special guest was Gillian Dibden, MBE, Sainsbury’s Choral Director of the Year 2002, and founder of Taplow Choirs.

The concert began with all students performing the stunning choir piece Imagine by John Lennon, followed by each school then showcasing four music pieces.

ACS Egham’s Harmony Choir performed We Can Dream by Pinkzebra and the Upper School band known as the Wall of Sound showcased their new composition This Love.

Soloist Nicholas Wong played Polinchinello by Villa-Lobos on the piano and Ileeana Johnson sung her song Under the Weather which was highly commended at the Association for Music in International Schools 2016 Young Composers’ competition.

The evening culminated with musicians from all the participating schools collaborating in a spectacular joint band performance of the Cissy Strut by The Meters.

ACS Egham’s Young Inspirations music concert a week later featured talented music students from several schools and conservatories, including the Yehudi Menuhin School, The Purcell School, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and - closer to home - Slough's St. Bernard’s Catholic Grammar School again.

Twelve performers aged between eight and eighteen played a range of instruments, including the violin, piano and snare drum.

ACS Egham student, Ileeana Johnson, performed Rêverie by Claude Debussy.

Irina Walters, Music Coordinator at ACS Egham, said: “Music is a powerful and special way of unifying students and it is such a delight to see students from surrounding schools working so collaboratively.

"Both annual concerts showed a very high level of music making and were a real inspiration to everyone who attended them, remaining extremely popular with students, staff and parents, year on year.”
