VALENTINES Day was chosen to hand over money raised from the annual Victorian Street Fayre.

On Sunday, November 20 last year the ever popular street fayre returned to Sunninghill with market stalls, mulled wine, a grotto and Christmas goodies all adorning the High Street.

All profits raised from the day have now been donated to dozens of good causes, and the Parish Council was delighted to hand over a cheque for more than £9,000 at the Racecourse last Tuesday.

“It was lovely,” said Cllr Allison Sharpe, chairman of the Parish Council, “It was a day for love, sharing and for heartfelt thanks for the whole community.

“We were pleased to be able to present the cheque, in particular to the Ascot Day Centre, who play an integral part of the day as it takes them months to organise the event.

“They are really big supporters and it was also lovely to see pupils from St Francis School at the cheque presentation.

“They had written in to say that they wanted some more non-fiction books about animals in their library, so it was lovely to be able to help with that.

“We especially said we wanted the presentation to be on Valentines Day, that's why we had red balloons because we wanted to spread the love.”

Other beneficiaries from the funds raised included the Sunningdale Hope Trust, who are raising money for the restoration of Cordes Hall.

The Sunningdale Bowling Club will be able to comply with new safety regulations when they purchase a set of four mobile steps to allow members access to the green.

Elsewhere, riding school the Windsor Horse Rangers, who have just been granted planning permission for a new building on its farm, will receive vital cash towards the newbuild.

Children with illnesses will be able to spend more time with their families thanks to a donation to the Sebastian's Action Trust.

While a voluntary-run charity, Children with Special Needs and the Scouts and Guides will receive grants also were delighted to receive more funding.
