Students from Egham have travelled to Dubai to sing at an international choir festival.

The young songsters from ACS Egham International School in London Road went to the American School of Dubai to participate in the Association for Music in International Schools (AMIS) Middle School Honor Mixed Choir Festival.

They were among 115 students who took part in the AMIS festival.

The six ACS Egham students, aged 12 and 13, joined 115 students participating in the three-day event. School auditions were held for the six available places, which required two sopranos, two altos and two baritones with fierce competition for the coveted places.

Irina Walters, Music Coordinator at ACS Egham International School, said: “The festival involved rehearsing with guest conductor Melanie Brink for three days, culminating in a breathtaking gala concert. In total, 115 students were present from 18 schools, singing nine songs in six different languages.

“The students had a wonderful time learning new vocal skills, meeting fellow students from across the world, and enjoyed staying with their host families in Dubai.”

ACS Egham has been a member of AMIS for 14 years and has participated in music festivals worldwide, including Amsterdam, Vienna, Qatar and Beijing.

*The ACS Egham International School’s staff, family and friends enjoyed a three-course authentic Nepalese banquet and dancing at the annual fundraising dinner for its Project Nepal.

ACS Egham has a long term partnership with Jana Bhawana Primary School and the local community in the Kathmandu Valley.

The banquet kicked off the fund raising for the school in 2017.

A team of 30 ACS students are currently in training for the annual two-week charity expedition, during the spring. They will spend time volunteering at the partner school in Nepal, while experiencing the local culture first hand.
