Ascot's parking problems are not being ignored.

That was the message from a leading Royal Borough councillor on Thursday as two worried residents from the town and its surrounding villages demanded to know why a new £10million draft parking plan appeared to focus only on Maidenhead and Windsor.

Diana Tombs and Patrick Griffin from the Ascot, Sunninghill and Sunningdale Neighbourhood Plan Delivery group turned up at last week's meeting of the Royal Borough's ruling cabinet to raise the issue.

Mr Griffin said: "How much of the £10million will be allocated to caring for the parking needs of Ascot, Sunningdale and Sunninghill, all of which suffer a serious shortage of parking."

Cllr Carwyn Cox - lead member for environmental services - assured them that the Ascot side of the borough would not be ignored.

He said the report had focussed at this stage on Maidenhead because of the pressing need that will arise as the regeneration plan for the town progresses.

He said: "We are not ignoring the rest of the borough."

The report aims to anticipate the parking problems that might arise as the multi-million regeneration of Maidenhead continues, inevitably leading to the need for temporary spaces as new developments swallow up familiar spaces.
