ELDERLY patients staying at the Royal Berkshire Hospital over Christmas will be receiving an extra treat.

Thanks to the Bracknell-based Get Active Sports, they donated more than 200 shoeboxes packed full of goodies.

These were donated by Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons, Clarks and Cemex, with beautifully decorated by children attending Get Active Sports'
recent holiday camp.

Each box also contained a personal letter written by each child.

The shoebox gifts delivered to the hospital to be given out to patients on the elderly care wards.

Natasha Thortnon from Get Active Sports said "When I initially contacted the RBH Volunteers to find out who we could provide shoe boxes for in the hospital, we expected to hear it would be around 30 elderly people.

"They said 200 boxes would cover it. This figure seemed an impossible one to achieve, where would we get 200 shoeboxes from and enough gifts to fill them?

"But Get Active Sports took this as a challenge and were thrilled when we managed to achieve our 200 box goal.

"The next step was to involve the children in our holiday camps. Two hundred shoeboxes were distributed across six venues where hundreds of children beavered away over a two day period making lovely cards and Christmas decorations to put in the top of the boxes.

"Many children even decorated the outside of the boxes making them festive and bright."
