A TALENTED student has been highly commended for a work she wrote 'under the weather'.
But Ileena Johnson is feeling fine.
Her winning work is called Under the Weather. She entered it in the Young Composers' competition run by the Association for Music in International Schools (AMIS).
The competition is challenging, attracting the most talented and musically gifted students as entries from the AMIS member schools across the world. Ileena is a pupil at ACS Egham International School.
The process entails five adjudicators listening to the composed piece of music that is submitted by the student. Once every student has performed their piece, an outright winner is then selected with only a few other pieces given a highly commended award.
Ileeana, reflecting on her achievement, said: “I am delighted that my piece “Under the Weather” was highly commended. I wrote the lyrics and composed it for two voices, electric guitar, bass guitar, percussion and piano. I love playing the piece and I look forward to composing more pieces in the future.”
After the competition, Irina Walters, ACS Egham Music Coordinator, said: “We are all extremely proud of Ileeana's fantastic achievement. Ileeana's piece is very impressive and it is to her great credit that her musical talent has been recognised in such an auspicious competition.”
