THE CURTAIN will be raised on a musical theatre cabaret next week which marks an Ascot teacher's directorial debut.

Megan Crocker is helming her first show, From Footlights to Spotlights, with Spotlights Musical Theatre Group.

The concert promises to be jam-packed full of top-class tributes to the greatest musicals of both stage and screen, including perennial favourites such Grease, My Fair Lady, The Lion King, Oliver! and The Wizard of Oz.

Rousing chorus numbers, impressive four-part harmonies, small ensembles and various solo items will all feature among the numbers performed.

Ms Crocker, who formerly taught at Charters School in Sunningdale, is excited to be following up Spotlights' recent success The Pirates of Penzance.

She said: "It has been a pleasure to direct my first concert with Spotlights. The members are so enthusiastic and always rise to the challenge of whatever piece of music they are given.

According to the first-time director, Spotlights was extremely lucky to have such a wealth of talent in both its members and leaders.

"I’ve been associated with this group for a number of years and this is the best they have sung, tacking some complex harmonies. This is thanks not only to the hard work of our members but also to our wonderful musical director, Serena Kay," she added.

From Footlights to Spotlights will be performed at the Carnation Hall in Winkfield, Ascot, on Friday October 14 at 7.30pm and Saturday October 15 at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.

Tickets are £10 for adults and £7 for under 16s and are available now from the box office on 01344 205651 or via www.spotlightsmtg.co.uk. A booking fee applies to all credit card bookings.
