AN INNOVATIVE girls' football tournament kicks off at an Ascot school next week as part of a national campaign to empower girls in sport.
Young sportswomen from schools across Berkshire and southern England will be descending on LVS Ascot on Thursday October 13 to mark 'This Girl Can'.
The nationwide initiative celebrates active women and girls, while also encouraging female participation in sport.
October's six-a-side competition, supported by the Independent Schools Association, will feature brackets for Under 11s, Under 13s and Under 15s.
At least two Women's Super League players will be on hand to offer support and tips to the young footballers.
John Percy, LVS Ascot's director of sport, said: "We are always looking for new ways to engage pupils in sport and show them the full range of activities available and their benefits, both competitive and recreational.
"We are proud to be at the forefront of raising the profile of girls' football in the south of England and hope we inspire those present to immerse themselves in sport and enjoy all the advantages that it brings."
