RESIDENTS in Ascot are being encouraged to recycle their anti-perspirant and deodorant aerosols at one of the first such collection points in the country.

Maloney's Budgens on the High Street has signed up for AEROCYCLE, which will enable people to get rid of their aerosol cans in a green way while at the same time raising funds for the Ascot Guides.

The initiative aims to turn recycled aluminium from aerosol containers into outdoor community gyms around the UK.

Additionally, for every 400 cans sent for recycling, £8 will be donated to the Ascot Guides to go towards their annual pack holiday next year.

The project is a collaboration between men's deodorant brand Right Guard, waste management firm TerraCycle and The Outdoor Gym Company.

Initially Maloney's Budgens will be one of just 50 sites across the nation where used aerosol cans can be dropped off.

The Ascot location is managed by Susan Shefford from the Ascot Guides, who secured approval from the store to host a collection point.

Ms Shefford was delighted that Ascot is one of the first communities in the UK to be accepted on the AEROCYCLE programme.

She said: "By dropping back any used aerosol deos to the collection box at Maloney’s Budgens on the High Street, local people will be reducing the number of used aerosol deos going to landfill, repurposing the recycled aluminium material to build outdoor gyms and raising much needed funds for the Ascot Guides.

"So please get involved and tell your friends and family to do the same."

The drop off collection box can be found at Maloney’s Budgens near the tills at the front of the store.

It is open between 7.00am and 9.00pm Monday to Saturday and from 10.00am to 4.00pm on Sundays.
