STARS from hit show Strictly Come Dancing teed off at Sunningdale Golf Club to fundraise for a leading cancer charity.

The exclusive annual event, now in its 19th year, raked in thousands of pounds for CLIC Sargent to coincide with Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Chris Hollins, who won the seventh series of the dancing contest, hosted the proceedings alongside fellow SCD alumni Mark Ramprakash and Mark Foster.

The BBC Breakfast presenter said: “It was great to see everyone get together during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month to have fun on the golf course whilst raising funds for this worthy cause."

Other well-known sports personalities such as Sir Steve Redgrave, Lee Dixon and Mark Butcher joined the celeb dancers in playing the golf course.

After playing the 18 holes of golf, there was an inspiring speech by cancer patient Duncan Cathie, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour four years ago.

Mr Cathie, 20, remarked: “Before my diagnosis I was always very sporty and I’m a big sports fan in general so it was great to meet all the familiar faces and share my experiences with them.

“When I was ill I had amazing support from my CLIC Sargent social worker Rachel who helped me to make new friends and further myself by putting me in contact with other people going through the same things as me.”

Hannah Gripton, major events manager at CLIC Sargent, could not thank the celebrities and their teams enough for their generous support.

“The Sunningdale Golf event is always a fantastic opportunity for our guests to play a round on such a prestigious course while learning more about how CLIC Sargent is changing what it means to be diagnosed when you’re young,” she added.
