A TEAM of teachers from LVS Ascot will now be known to millions thanks to their appearance on a BBC2 quiz show tonight (August 2).

Led by captain James Paterson, the appropriately named Victuallers will face off against the fearsome Eggheads in the latest instalment of the long-running series, which could be described as Gladiators for quizzers.

Mr Paterson is perhaps a strong contender to be an Egghead himself as he is a four-time runner-up in the UK Memory Championships.

He said: "We thought it would be good to go for something where the odds were stacked against us while being fun as well."

The 34 year-old hopes his squad's performance will set an example to LVS Ascot pupils and inspire them to pursue their own challenges.

"We wanted to show the students that any project is a good idea no matter how tough it is," he added.

Mr Paterson, who is head of psychology at the school, enjoyed meeting Eggheads host Jeremy Vine during filming.

He revealed: "We didn't see him until we were sat at the desk. He was very pleasant, shook our hands and made us feel at home.

"Unfortunately I didn't get the chance to crack a Strictly Come Dancing joke!"

Though the match's result was still a closely guarded secret at the time of going to press, the Reading resident at least admitted that Barry Simmons was the Victuallers' toughest opponent.

"We could tell how good all the Eggheads were. We were fairly organised and knew our own strengths," he said.

"It was very close and exciting. We hope lots of students will watch the show."

The Victuallers' episode of Eggheads will air tonight at 6pm on BBC2.
