EASTENDERS star Anita Dobson was the guest of honour at the relaunch of a Sunninghill shop as she unveiled its transformation.

A downpour didn’t dampen the mood at Thames Hospice’s event – which raised more than 2,000 – where the TV favourite cut the ribbon in front of a waiting crowd as the doors opened on the new store.

Allison Sharpe, chairwoman of Sunninghill Parish Council and chair of the Ascot Thames Hospice Fundraising Group, cut the celebratory cake as customers filled the venue in the village’s High Street.

More than a normal week’s takings for the shop were raised at the opening.

Julie Rowley, Thames Hospice director of retail, said: “We are overwhelmed by the continued support since we relaunched our stunning shop. The celebrations had customers queuing out of the doors, so we thank you for joining us and for your patience.

“Your purchases and generous donations mean Thames Hospice can continue to deliver expert end-of-life and palliative care in your community and at our hospice.

“Anita was an incredible host and wonderful with staff, volunteers and shoppers, as was Allison. We would like to extend our thanks to both of them for taking the time out of their busy schedules to be part of our special day.”

The shop has been refurbished to create a ‘fresh shopping experience in the heart of the local community’.

It includes a new boutique section and continues to offer womenswear and men’s fashion, books and more. DVDs, children’s toys and games and a concession of new bags and accessories.
