A NEW support service is now available for unpaid carers in the Royal Borough.

The Ark Trust Ltd, which also supports carers in Bracknell Forest, has stepped in to provide support for more than 700 carers in the Royal Borough.

The Ark will provide services through its Signal project including advice and guidance, a dedicated phone line, website, engagement through social media, newsletters and one-to-one support.

It will assist the council in ensuring that it meets its priorities for carers which are that they have access to good quality information advice and support, they are able to navigate services available and they are able to take a break from caring.

It also hopes to improve the health and well-being of carers, support carers in fulfilling their education, employment and life chances and test carers’ support is targeted and reaches the all the borough's communities.

Young carers in the borough will continue to be supported by the Young Carers’ Project run by Family Action.

Cllr David Coppinger, cabinet member for adult services and health, said: “Those caring for a disabled, ill or elderly loved one need to know there is help and support available for them and I am delighted we will be able to continue to provide this support through The Ark Trust.

“Being a carer can be an extremely difficult task and we know how important it is to provide a support service for those who undertake the role.”

The council’s previous supplier, Berkshire Carers Service, decided not to continue its contract with the council.
