A MACHETE attack left a man needing surgery during a "large scale disturbance" behind an Italian restaurant in Virginia Water.
One man suffered a serious injury to his hand which required surgery during the incident. It took place in the car park behind Piccolino's restaurant in London Road, Virginia Water, on Saturday night, around 5pm. All three men involved are said to have known each other.
Matthew Newland, 25, of Hardwick Lane, Lyne, Chertsey, has been charged with affray and possession of an offensive weapon in connection with the incident. He appeared at East Surrey Magistrates Court on Monday where he entered a not guilty plea. He is due to appear at Guildford Crown Court on May 19 for trial.
A 46-year-old man from Windlesham was also arrested and released on bail until May 23.
