CHARTERS School has been chosen as one of only six school in the Royal Borough to create a team of six students to train as 'emotional wellbeing champions'.
The Psychological Wellbeing Team in Windsor and Maidenhead is behind the programme in association with Time to Change, a national campaign to end mental health discrimination and stigma.
The aim of the programme is to raise awareness and knowledge of positive mental health, and 'to create an open, supportive culture around mental health in schools'.
Year 8 pupil, Emma Sibley, Year 9 students Charlie Holden, Ellie Sassi-Roberts, Max White, Jack Wetherall and Year 10 pupil Mahika Manco together with school counsellor Sera Orme, were invited to take part in a one-day workshop to learn about the importance of emotional wellbeing and resilience.
Following the workshop, they will now present the campaigns to their peer with the idea that they can tackle stigma and discrimination by 'raising awareness of emotional difficulties and how to look after themselves and others'.
Thanks to a donation from ex-Charters student Carl Maine, the school transformed the vacant caretaker's bungalow on the edge of the site into the Maine Centre so it could offer a range of support services to pupils.
