A MEETING to decide the fate of 88 homes on land in Chavey Down has been adjourned until after April 1.

An appeal against a proposed development in Locks Ride put forward by Gladman Development is scheduled to be heard by a planning inspector in the next few weeks after it was pulled at the eleventh hour at the beginning of the month.

The initial application - which received 123 individual objections as well as 309 signatures across two petitions - was refused by Bracknell Forest Council.

Banners and signs were draped across fences and front gardens along Locks Ride last March as residents took a stand calling for the council to refuse permission and also released 88 red balloons, one for each proposed home.

Stuart Tarrant, of Winkfield Row, said: "Winkfield has serious infrastructure issues relating to sewage.

"The busy Fernbank Road which was closed for several weeks due to significant sewage problems and the junction in the flood prone area of Winkfield Row/Hayley Green/Bracknell Road is not fit for purpose. One sewage pipe along a public footpath next to The Cut is badly cracked requiring regular tree root maintenance and another from Hayley Green is too small resulting in raw sewage blockage and leakage.

"During wet weather, a sewage/contaminated water fountain appears in the middle of the road at the Forest Road/Hatchet Lane road junction.

"The potential significant increase in new residences will increase the existing sewage problems in the area resulting in more frequent environmental and pollution incidents."

The venue of the appeal is not yet clear.
