A CHURCH tea party held for the first time took place without a hitch, a lot of cakes and some charitable aid at the end of it.

Around 70 people went along to the afternoon event on Tuesday, August 4, at All Saints Church, in London Road, Ascot.

The party was open to all members of the community, not just for church-goers.

Church warden Pam Davey said: “It was the first time we had done something like it and a lot of people who don’t usually come to the church came and they had a lovely time.

“There was some young families and little babies and some older people who like to make a fuss of them!

“We had so many cakes and sandwiches that the next day a decision was made after the party, by one of our lay ministers, Sheila Shrigley, who had the idea for the event, to take them to the drop in at the North Ascot Community Centre and they had another party of their own!”
