David Sammons
Mr Sammons, who lives in Egham, said everybody is enraged about the complete political debacle and thought to himself that something needed to be done. The 58-year-old married father-of-two said: “There comes a time in your life when you have got to nail your colours to the mast.” He says Airtrack, gravel digging and the proposed third runway at Heathrow are the key issues for the Runnymede constituency.


Jenny Gould
Miss Gould is concerned the world is running out of fossil fuels and has decided to stand for election to highlight the problem. She is from Englefield Green and said: “We only have one planet and we are running out of oil and gas.” The 44-year-old, who is currently renovating a property, highlighted an affordable bus service as a key priority for the area.


Toby Micklethwait
Mr Micklethwait said the cost of being in the European Union is putting added pressure on the economy. The 71-year-old, who lives in Lyne, said: “If we want to cut costs that is the big one.” Mr Micklethwait, who is retired and has one daughter, also highlighted overcrowding as a problem in the constituency.


Paul Greenwood
Mr Greenwood is a 56-year-old firefighter from Chertsey who stood for Labour in the last election. He said: “Public transport, particularly the buses throughout the county, is very important. “The number of school places available in small pockets of the county are also an issue.”


Andrew Falconer
Mr Falconer is a careers advisor from Royal Holloway University and is running for election the first time because he feels it is time to stand up and be counted. The 53-year-old from Egham has raised transport as a key issue effecting the local constituency. He said: “I get annoyed when I see the social injustice and people struggling when they shouldn’t be.”


Philip Hammond
The incumbent MP for Runnymede is hoping to retain the seat he has held since 1997. Conservative Philip Hammond first stood for Parliament in Newham North East in 1994. Mr Hammond, who is married and has three children, is the Tory spokesman for the Treasury. He said: “I believe it willl take another Conservative government to successfully build on the economic reforms of the 1980s and deliver real social change in Britain.”
